This 2017 novel tells the story of aging Hollywood icon Evelyn Hugo, who, after decades of silence, hires a journalist, Monique Grant, to write her biography. Through Evelyn’s candid revelations, the novel explores her life, including her seven marriages, her rise to fame, and her complex relationships, particularly her enduring love for actress Celia St. James, which was kept secret due to societal pressures. The story delves into themes of ambition, love, identity, and the sacrifices one makes for both.
