(WS) Crafting Chapters Book Discussion

Join us as we discuss Ariel Lawhon’s novel, The Frozen River, inspired by true historical events in the life of 18th century midwife Martha Ballard. When a man’s body is pulled from Maine’s frigid Kennebec River in the winter of 1789, local healer and midwife Martha Ballard is summoned to the scene to determine how the man died. When her conclusions point to murder, a local physician moves to discredit her findings and rules it an accidental death. Only months earlier, Martha had written the account of an alleged attack on a women by two of the town’s most respected citziens – now, one of the accused suspects is dead. As the trial nears and the truth is as murky as black ice, Martha is determined to seek truth — wherever it leads.
